Google announces three improvements for its 'Search'

Google has revealed some new improvements that it has implied in its Google Search service recently. These improvements aim to make it easier for people to search exactly what they want. The company has brought three new enhancements in the past few weeks.

“In the last few weeks, we’ve made three new additions to help you explore further, including expanded Featured Snippets, improved functionality of Knowledge Panels, and suggested content as you search for a particular topic,” says the blog post.

The Featured Snippets, as explained by Google, are ‘algorithmically generated highlights’ of what users see on the web. These are made in order to deliver quick, relevant answers for user’s queries. Google has added more images and related searches in Featured Snippets, giving more information on the topic users are searching on the internet.

Sundar Pichai and team have also improved upon their ‘Knowledge Panels’ to show more related content. “For example, while looking at the Knowledge Panel about skiing, you’ll see related searches for sports such as snowboarding directly inside the result,” says the post.

Slight improvements in the suggestions for related topics have also been made. Now, when users search for a football player followed by another, the results will show you related suggestions to both the topics.

“While you’re researching a particular topic on Google—like soccer players for next year’s World Cup—and you search for Neymar followed by a search for Messi, you’ll see suggestions for related topics in the same vein at the top of the search results page so you can continue to discover other athletes during your search session,” says Google.

Talking about search, Google has just launched Android Oreo Go Edition along with a suite of apps, one of which is Google Go. It is the stripped down version of Google Search app. It has the same function as Google Search but in a faster and easier way. “Built from the ground up for new smartphone owners just discovering the web, Google Go makes it easy to find popular queries, top websites and apps, trending images and gifs at blazing speed, with minimal typing,” explains Google.
