Microsoft, Uber likely to offer US jobs to IIT graduates

Microsoft, Uber, PayPal, Indeed and first-time recruiter Rubrik are likely to offer the most-coveted US profiles at IIT-Bombay’s annual placement season that starts on Friday.

Most of these firms have, however, forewarned students about visa problems and have made parallel offers for Indian positions, in case selected candidates fail to get visas, said sources from the campus. Last year, a majority of the students who were placed in US firms had to join their Indian offices. Students are still excited about US offers despite fewer companies visiting the campus, since they are coming from reputed organizations. Even if students have to work in domestic locations, they are likely to get a transfer after a year or two,” said a student.

“Their salaries are not on a per with the US firms, but students are keen on getting an international experience. The number of firms coming to the campus has almost doubled,” said a student. Rakuten, Murata, Yahoo Japan, Sony are some of the Japanese firms that have been regular on the campus in recent years
